SBF becomes part of the Royal Society of Edinburgh
21st December 2007
We are pleased to announce that the Scottish Bioinformatics Forum (SBF) has become a project of the RSE Scotland Foundation of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE), and has moved into the RSE offices in George Street, Edinburgh.
The purpose and objectives of the SBF remain unchanged, but we expect the move to enhance our intense interactions with all the key stakeholders in the Scottish research community. An advanced scientific plan for future SBF activities will be drawn up in close consultation with the Scottish Universities, Research Institutes, and Industry, and debated in current months with all stakeholders.
The current holders of the Strategic Research Development Grant for bioinformatics in Scotland, the Scottish Bioinformatics Research Network (SBRN), will be working closely with the SBF, and fully support the move. The SBF will support the outreach activities of SBRN, and act as a facilitator for communication, knowledge transfer, and collaborations between SBRN and the Scottish research community. The SBF will also work closely with the Scottish Universities Life Science Alliance (SULSA) to deliver common objectives.
It is the firm intention that the SBF should become a permanent fixture in Scotland. We aim to diversify our funding streams, and through that expand SBF activities and resources, and ensure its long term future.
